Climate Change & Energy
Energy policy and the successful mitigation of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations will play a crucial role in determining the scope of climate change impacts in the second half of the 21st century and may ultimately mean the difference between manageable and catastrophic outcomes for global human populations and ecosystems.
In this course, we provide technical information and analytical approaches to the analysis of energy alternatives and associated energy policies in the context of greenhouse gas mitigation strategies. The course will encompass current and alternative energy use options in the transportation, residential and light commercial, municipal and heavy industrial sectors. Energy production and conversion alternatives associated with both centralized production (utilities) and distributed (consumer-oriented) approaches will be evaluated. The complex nexus between water, transportation and energy will also be explored in the context of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.
