The Path to Your Dream Job: Nine Steps For Success

The commitment is the first step on your journey. Make promises to yourself and hold yourself accountable. Tell yourself, 'I'm going to do something.'Finding your passion may be one of the more difficult steps on the path to your dream job. After working in the same field for a long time, it's easy to confuse your skills and your passions. You may do your job well, but that doesn't mean you're passionate about the work you're doing. Distractions like these can make it difficult for us to determine what it is that we want to do. A good way of trying to pin down your passion is by doing an inventory of your life. Look back on what you've done - what has positively affected you?Your catalyst is the action that sets you in motion once you've clarified what you're passionate about. Whether it's your mentor, your suport network or your bank account, get clear about it. Tell yourself, for example, 'Once I have this much money in savings I'll start actively pursuing my dream job.'Make a Commitment to Take ActionGet Clear About Your PassionRecognize Your CatalystThe order of these four steps doesn't matter, because they're closely related to one another. What's important is to plan for the future. If you think your journey through, you'll avoid getting stuck. If you have unresolved fears, whether they're economic concerns, the fear of failure or a fear of the unknown, prepapration and a support network can help you overcome any qualms. If you don't have a plan, you run the risk of wasting your time and elogating your journey.Create A PlanResolve Your FearsBuild A Support NetworkResearch, Prepare, EducateGo for it. If you've completed the previous steps, you should be ready to put your plan into action. If you think you're not ready, you have to ask yourself, 'How perishable is my situation?' You don't want to lose an opportunity. This step is subjective. Do you want to grow within your field, or do you want to move on and pursue other passions? What's important is to stay open - and keep moving forward.Put Plan Into ActionContinue to Grow
