• How are fees and tuition assessed for my course?

  Fees and tuition are assessed based on course level: undergraduate fees are charged for course levels 100-499, while graduate fees are charged for all course levels above 499. Some charges are program specific.

• How is my course graded?

  The UW uses two grading systems for undergraduate courses: a numerical grading system and a credit/no credit system. Only one grading system can be used for any course at any particular time. All students registered in the course that quarter receive either numerical grades or credit/no credit grades.

  Numerical grading system: In the numerical system, instructors may report grades in .1 increments from 4.0 to .7. For undergraduate courses, the grade 0.0 is assigned for failing work or unofficial withdrawal. Grades in the range 0.6 to 0.1 are automatically converted by the Office of the Registrar to 0.0. For graduate level courses, instructors may report grades in .1 increments from 4.0 to 1.7. The grade 0.0 is assigned for failing work or unofficial withdrawal. Grades in the range 1.6 to 0.1 are automatically converted by the Office of the Registrar to 0.0. See the table below for a full description.

  Credit/no credit grading system: Many UW departments allow some credit courses to be offered on a credit/no credit-only basis. A student receives a grade of credit by demonstrating competence in the material to the instructor's satisfaction.

• Credit course technology fees

  All students enrolled in UW credit classes (except those taking credit courses during Summer Quarter) pay a technology fee based on the number of credits for which they are enrolled each quarter.

  By university policy, all credit classes are assessed a technology fee whether or not technology resources (e.g., computer labs) are used in the course.

• Can I take my course satisfactory/not satisfactory (S/NS)?

  Students may elect to take numerically graded courses on a satisfactory/not satisfactory basis (S/NS).

  S/NS is a grading option intended primarily for elective credits. Credits earned as S/NS may not be used to satisfy university, college or departmental requirements. Advisers should be consulted to determine restrictions and eligibility.

• Can I audit an undergraduate credit course?

  The option of auditing courses is not available to students enrolled in certificate programs.

• Can I receive an incomplete in my course?

  A grade of incomplete is given only in very special circumstances. The student must furnish evidence to the instructor that coursework cannot be completed due to illness or other circumstance beyond the student's control. The student must have been in attendance in the course and have done satisfactory work up until the last two weeks of the course.

  To obtain credit for the course, the incomplete must be converted to a grade by the last day of the next academic quarter. An incomplete grade for a spring quarter course, however, does not have to be made up until the last day of the following autumn quarter.

  If a grade of incomplete is not converted to a grade by the deadline, the UW registrar converts the incomplete to a grade of 0.0. An Instructor may approve an extension of the deadline. Arrangements for extensions must be made by the last day of the quarter in which the incomplete grade was given. Extensions may be granted for up to three additional quarters.

• Will my course be factored in my UW grade point average (GPA)?

  Grades earned for credit courses in a certificate program are included in grade-point average calculations.

• What is graduate nonmatriculated (GNM) status?
  Graduate nonmatriculated (GNM) status is a classification for qualified postbaccalaureate individuals who are not currently seeking a graduate degree, but may later want to apply credits earned towards a degree. • Can I transfer the credits I earn through my certificate program?

  Acceptance into a credit UW Professional & Continuing Education certificate program does not constitute admission to the University of Washington. However, the credits earned may be applied toward a degree should a student be admitted to and matriculate in the university at a later date.

  Graduate: A person can earn a credit certificate as a graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student and then apply the credits earned in the certificate toward a graduate degree, if accepted to a graduate degree program. However, a matriculated student cannot first be accepted into a graduate degree program and then earn a certificate for the same coursework. Once a graduate degree student, he/she can no longer earn a certificate for taking the same courses. • How do I view my grades?

  Students can access their final grade for a University of Washington credit class through the UW's MyUW online system. Grade information available on MyUW includes quarterly grade point average (GPA) and current cumulative GPA. Grades will be available on MyUW the Wednesday after the last day of the academic quarter.

  Grades can be accessed from the Student tab of MyUW under the Student Personal Services section.
   

• Can I get a printed copy of my grades?
  You may use the MyUW system to print a copy of your grades. You may also request to have a printed quarterly grade report mailed to you. All requests for printed grade reports must be made before the third Wednesday after the last day of the quarter. If you need a printed copy of your grades after that date, you must request a UW transcript .
