Costs & Fees

The fees described below pertain to UWPCE certificate programs, specializations and courses. For information on degree program fees, see the degree program website.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Fees for UWPCE programs vary depending on program type and whether the program is credit or noncredit.

Required fees

Course Fees

Course fees vary. Check the course or program page for details.

Course fees do not include any costs for materials such as textbooks or software.

Registration Fee

You pay a nonrefundable registration fee every quarter you register for classes. The fee is $55. If you register for multiple classes, the registration fee is charged only once. The registration fee covers administrative processes and is nonrefundable, even if you withdraw from all your classes.

Technology Fee  (credit courses only)

Students enrolled in credit courses pay a technology fee. The technology fee provides funds for the improvement of technology used by students at UW campuses. It supports resources such as computer labs, software and cloud storage.

The technology fee is based on your student status and the number of credits you are registered for, and ranges from $4 to $22 per quarter (2023-24). You’re assessed the technology fee whether or not the courseyou’re taking uses technology resources.

APPLICATION FEE

When you apply to a certificate program, specialization or course, you pay a onetime application fee of $50.  The application fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable.

optional fees

Computer Account Fee

Noncredit students can purchase a computer account for $55 per quarter. The computer account fee gives you access to the same technology resources as UW credit students, including the Student Technology Loan Program. This fee is nonrefundable.

U-PASS

If you're taking a classroom credit course (certificate or standalone) through UWPCE, you may purchase a U-PASS through Registration Services for $150 per quarter. Note that noncredit students are not eligible to purchase a U-PASS.

The U-PASS provides students with a variety of low-cost transportation options — from unlimited rides on buses, commuter train service and light rail, to vanpooling and discounted impromptu carpooling. See the U-PASS page of the UW Transportation Services website for important instructions about activating your U-PASS, payment deadlines and more.

Other information

All fees are subject to change. For most courses, fees may change at the start of the academic year in September.

Many courses require textbooks, software or other course materials. The cost of these materials is extra. Shortly before your course begins, you will be sent information about any materials you need to purchase.

If you are in a certificate program and you don't register by the end of the third session of class, you may be charged a $90 late registration fee.
