About this Program

As author John Dufresne said, “The purpose of the first draft is not to get it right, but to get it written.” If you’ve finished that first draft of a novel or collection of short stories, you’re now ready to do the hard work of getting it right.

In this three-course certificate program, we’ll take a deep dive into the more complex facets of fiction writing. You’ll explore different types of storytelling and learn how to employ the five-focus plot structure. We’ll study the ways that character shapes and reflects your story and consider the nuances of language and voice in your work. Hone your writing skills and produce a solid draft of your fiction book.

Designed For

Individuals who have completed the certificate program in Literary Fiction Writing or Popular Fiction Writing, along with those who have a book draft that needs refinement.
