About this Course

Through lectures, writing assignments, readings and discussions, you become comfortable with the process of writing, familiar with the fundamental tools of the writer and connected to the writing community. In this first course, you cover the main points of technique, including plotting, character development and point of view; you also complete a story sketch, a complete story beginning, a plot chart and a complete polished draft of a story. You will continue to write new work, while developing your editing skills and exploring more subtle shades of narrative craft such as mood, pace, authority, imagery and structure. Guest speakers are featured.
