About this Course
Studies have shown that top-quality instruction and caregiving from an early age can make a major difference in children’s subsequent educational achievement and well-being. Highly trained early childhood and expanded learning opportunities coaches are a crucial part of this effort. In this course, we’ll examine some of the guiding principles and key skills of Practice-Based Coaching in early childhood and before- and after-school settings.
This is an online course, with a one-day, real-time online session and seven online self-paced sessions.
The one-day real-time session focuses on deepening and generalizing the collective understanding of effective foundational coaching practices. You'll observe and critique practices in a variety of situations, then share and receive feedback with your Community of Reflection and Practice (CORP) group members.
The remaining sessions rely on self-guided Canvas modules, interactive discussion forums and active use of the Coaching Companion. You'll engage with your peers to reflect on and analyze your coaching practice, as well as to incorporate the foundational skills introduced during the one-day session. Video-recorded assignments are a critical element of the course, supporting self-reflection, assessment and feedback from instructors and peers.
You can apply the three credits earned in this course toward completion of the Certificate in Practice-Based Coaching, which starts next in winter 2021.
