About this Course

This course offers an introduction to comparative biomechanics of animal movement, which will help you develop an understanding of surface anatomy as it relates to the underlying musculoskeletal structures. We’ll explore rendering styles that feature dynamic depictions of both internal and external anatomies. You’ll learn a variety of techniques — black-and-white, color and digital illustration.

This course includes a weekend Digital Illustration Workshop, which is required for course completion.

Past guest speakers have included Karen Petersen, a lecturer in the UW Department of Biology; biomedical illustrator Charles Wood and freelance illustrator Jessica Heide.
