Meet the Instructors
Bill Thorness has been a writer and editor working in Seattle for more than 25 years. He does freelance work for media, corporate and nonprofit clients on a wide range of projects. His previous editing work includes editing a statewide newspaper, a national business magazine, health care corporate communications and many nonfiction books. As a writer, his work has appeared in many regional publications, including The Seattle Times, Crosscut.com and Edible Seattle. He is the author of four books: two on gardening, one on biking and one that is a business-leadership profile. He is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Garden Writers Association and the Northwest Independent Editors Guild. Thorness teaches editing for the UW Professional & Continuing Education Certificate in Editing program and has taught for other editing organizations. In the classroom, he focuses on skills development through practical editing exercises, manuscript analysis and lively discussion.
