Meet the Instructor
Joseph A. Schilz
After serving a tour in the Marines and pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching, Joseph Schilz began his professional career as a mathematics and technology teacher in tribal southwest Alaska. There he coordinated the direction of instruction and curriculum design as the district secretary of the department of mathematics, helping his students achieve multi-year skill gains using classroom differentiation and technology integration.
A lifelong programmer, Schilz went on to work as a web developer at the University of Washington, where he produces open-source libraries for accessing the University’s various web services. His contributions to the Python community include presentations at the local Python and API meetups as well as multiple plugins for Django that help developers produce secure web services. He works at Blue Origin, where he writes code that supports the development and testing of human spaceflight hardware.
