Meet the Instructor
Susan Howlett has been raising money joyfully for over 40 years, as a board member, development director, executive director, and for the last 28 years, as a consultant to over 1000 nonprofits throughout the U.S. Howlett’s recent book, Boards on Fire: Inspiring Leaders to Raise Money Joyfully, has taken the sector by storm. And the 5th edition of Getting Funded: The Complete Guide to Writing Grant Proposals, co-authored with Renee Bourque, won the 2012 Axiom Business Book Award Silver Medal. Howlett led the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association for 10 years and now serves as an emeritus board member. She has also served as a funder in several contexts and is often hired by grantors to strengthen the organizations they fund. Known for her engaging speaking style, filled with practical tips, stories and humor, Howlett earned UW's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2004 and the lifetime Professional Achievement Award from the NW Development Officers Association in 2001 for being a long-term leader and mentor in the profession. She speaks, trains and consults nationally.
