Tamer Awad

Principal Software Engineering Manager | Microsoft

Tamer Awad is an electrical engineer who graduated from the University of Washington and has been working in the computer industry for 18 years. He first started on the hardware side working at Intel, where he designed mother boards for servers and writing code for programmable logic devices. He then switched to the chipset group, where he worked on validating computer protocols, such as PCI-Express and Quick Path Interconnect. Awad then transferred to Microsoft, where he joined the automotive team before becoming a developer in the Internet of Things group.

At Microsoft, he has been involved in building software libraries in C and other languages that allow device developers to connect their devices to the Microsoft Azure cloud. These libraries enable a slew of devices, from embedded constrained ones all the way to machines with large computing and memory resources to connect to the cloud.

Prior to teaching at UW, Awad taught technology to peers through learning venues within Microsoft. He also loves teaching young kids about computers and coding and spends some of his time doing that for local Girl and Boy Scouts groups. He is passionate about teaching embedded and real-time system programming and helping more developers break into the field.
