We asked Tizzy Asher, an instructor in our Certificate in Storytelling & Content Strategy, to share a few of her favorite professional resources with us. Here’s what she had to say about what she’s loving right now and why.
Instructor, Content Creation: The Power of Storytelling
Principal Content Strategist, Expedia
Stories are all about transforming emotion — great stories evoke a feeling. This means that storytellers need to pay attention to emotional contrasts, just the way a designer or an artist tracks contrasting colors. No making up emotions!
To keep me honest, I turn to Robert Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions again and again as a reference. Yes, it's a clinical way of thinking about emotion. Yes, you sometimes need to be clinical about what you want your user to feel. And, you need to be clinical about your own emotions and how they touch your story.
For staying sharp, I turn to Contently Magazine and the GatherContent blog. It's a good mix of strategy and technical skill building content.
And of course, no day is complete without cat pictures. Lots and lots of cat pictures.
