Get the knowledge and skills you need to support the well-being of animals with a scholarship toward the Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior program.

University of Washington Professional & Continuing Education’s Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior program is pleased to announce scholarship support for students through the Applied Animal Behavior Scholarship Fund and the Department of Psychology. The purpose of this fund is to provide merit-based financial assistance to students who have applied to the Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior program.

The fund will award up to three scholarships for the 2024-2025 certificate program. One award will cover full course costs, excluding fees ($3,645, or $1,215 per quarter), and two awards will be for $1,500, or $500 per quarter. Awards will be applied directly to the recipients' program costs each quarter.

APPLICATION STEPS

STEP 1: APPLY TO THE Applied Animal Behavior PROGRAM

Only applicants to the Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior program are eligible for this scholarship. See the program page for information on how to apply.

STEP 2: APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

Email the following two documents to Matt Skirven at mskirven@uw.edu with the subject line “AAB Scholarship Application Materials”:

  • A brief letter (250 words maximum) that includes the following:
    • A summary of your previous personal or professional involvement with applied animal behavior (including work in industry and research and with companion animals, veterinaries and zoos), and how you hope to apply the knowledge and skills gained through the Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior.
    • At  the UW we value and honor diverse experiences and perspectives, we seek to increase access to education for all. Briefly tell us how your life experience might add to our diverse community of learners.
  • A current resume that highlights your experiences (professional, volunteer, internship, personal, etc.) working with animals. You can submit the same resume you did with your program application.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Scholarship applications for the 2024-2025 program should be submitted by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

AFTER APPLYING FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

After the deadline, all scholarship applications will be reviewed by a three-member selection committee.

Award decisions will be announced by Monday, August 26, 2024.
