Families & Aging in a Social-Cultural Context (UCONJ DL442)

About This Course

This course draws upon material from many of the social sciences to examine the range and variation in institutions, attitudes and cultural values related to aging. We’ll focus on the social and economic factors that influence older adults in different cultures. You’ll examine the effects of race, sex and gender identities on aging and cross-cultural variations in the perception and treatment of older adults. We’ll also explore the role of family (birth and chosen) in the support and care of older adults.
