David Veenstra

Professor, The Comparative Health Outcomes, Policy, and Economics (CHOICE) Institute, University of Washington

David Veenstra graduated from the University of California, San Francisco, with doctoral degrees in clinical pharmacy and computational chemistry. He conducted his postdoctoral training in health economics and outcomes research with the University of Washington, including a one-year externship with Roche Global Pharmacoeconomics.

Veenstra’s methodological expertise is in the development of decision analytic models to inform policy decisions in health care. He has worked extensively with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy in the United States to develop guidelines and train decision makers in the practical application of cost-effectiveness models. He teaches both introductory and advanced graduate-level courses in economic evaluation in health care. His applied research interest is the clinical, economic and policy implications of using genomic information in health care. His research has been funded through grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. Veenstra has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and five book chapters.
