Meet the Instructor
Shelby Petro is a professional wetland scientist with 10 years of experience in environmental consulting who specializes in wetland science, natural resources management and regulatory compliance. Petro routinely delineates wetlands and streams, conducts habitat assessments for special-status plant and wildlife species, conducts impact assessments and designs mitigation plans for impact to wetlands, streams and upland buffers.
Petro coordinates with local, state and federal agencies to obtain permits and approvals for compliance with regulations, including critical areas ordinances, shoreline management plans, the State Hydraulic Code, State and National Environmental Policy Acts, the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404. She has conducted field work and obtained permits for projects in Washington, Oregon, California, Montana and Indiana.
She holds a master's in environmental science and management from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a bachelor's in biology from Indiana Wesleyan University, and is a graduate of the UW Wetland Science & Management certificate program.
