Course Application Steps
This course is part of a certificate program. You can take this course without enrolling in the certificate program, but it won't automatically count toward earning the certificate. To apply to the full certificate program instead, visit the Certificate in Speech, Language & Hearing Foundations page. We accept course applicants on a space-available basis.
Step 1: Gather the Following Materials
- A current resume listing your degrees earned and undergraduate GPA
- A personal statement outlining your relevant skills and knowledge and how you acquired them (250-word maximum)
Step 2: Apply
Click "apply online" to complete your application and submit the materials listed in step 1.
After Applying
We will email you before the first class to let you know if you’ve been accepted. If you’re accepted, we’ll send you details about your course, including information on paying your course fee.
Admission Requirements
To apply, you must have:
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution (or an equivalent baccalaureate degree from a non-U.S. institution)
- A cumulative B.S. or B.A. GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Time Commitment
Whether you're a one-year or two-year student, you should expect to spend about 8 to 12 hours a week for each 4-credit course and 3 hours a week for each 1-credit course.
- One-Year Program: 2–3 courses per quarter (two 4-credit courses, plus one 1-credit course in autumn, winter and spring quarters)
- Two-Year Program: 1–2 courses per quarter (one 4-credit course, plus one 1-credit course in autumn, winter and spring quarters in year 1 or year 2).
English Proficiency

International Students

You must have access to a computer, and we recommend a high-speed internet connection.
Earning the Certificate
You earn the certificate by successfully completing the required courses. You must earn a grade of at least 2.0 or “pass” in each required course and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. For more information, see Earning the Certificate.
