Matthew Bennett

Editor and Co-Founder, Cascadia Editors Collective

Matthew Bennett is an educator, writer, editor and researcher. With a B.A. in creative writing, an M.A. in comparative literature and a Ph.D. in English literature, his education is grounded in the humanities, colonial linguistics and language philosophy. Having lived in Ecuador, Argentina, Canada and the United States, he has broad experience teaching language, literature, history and philosophy. He has presented his writing in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, and he contributed a chapter to A Cultural History of Race in the Reformation and Enlightenment, 1550–1760 (Bloomsbury), published in 2023.

Matthew Bennett began editing in 2008 at Ronsdale Press, and in 2016, he co-founded Cascadia Editors Collective to provide developmental editing and artistic guidance for writers. As VP of the Northwest Editors Guild in 2018, he developed the Emerald Writers Program to give emerging writers their first professional editing experience. He also teaches the humanities at the Seattle Film Institute. An instructor for UW Professional & Continuing  Education's Certificate in Editing and Specialization in Developmental Editing, he was awarded an Instructional Excellence Award in 2022.
