Next Steps for New Students

Congratulations on enrolling in a UW Professional & Continuing Education program or course! See below for some important next steps you’ll need to take as a new student.

Register for Your First Course

If you haven’t registered for your first course yet, we recommend that you do so promptly.

The registration deadline is seven days before the first class meeting for noncredit students, and two days before for credit students. Look for an email with registration instructions.

Get Your UW NetID

Next, set up your UW NetID. You'll need a NetID to access any online student resources for your program, such as Canvas, Zoom and UW Libraries online.

After you were accepted to your program, you received an email with your student number and private access code (PAC); both are needed to create your NetID. If you haven’t received this info (or if you’ve misplaced it), contact Registration Services for help.

Please don’t delay in setting up your UW NetID. Follow these instructions to create a NetID for the first time, recover a forgotten NetID or reset your password.

The UW requires two-factor authentication (2FA) for all resources that rely on a web browser for UW NetID sign-in. Learn how to opt in to use 2FA on the web.

Review Your Textbooks & Tech Needs

You can check Canvas, your learning management system, for any textbooks you'll need for your course. Canvas is available about a week before your course begins. You'll get an email when it's ready. If you need help, reach out to Enrollment Services at enroll@pce.uw.edu.

Review the Requirements section of the program or course page on this website for any technology you might need for class.
