About this Program
Machine learning and deep learning continue to change our world in countless ways, including much of the recent innovation in artificial intelligence. As these technologies advance and acquire more capabilities, machine learning not only drives automation and efficiency in existing fields — it’s inspiring new areas of exploration and innovations, limited only by the imagination.
In this three-course certificate program, we’ll prepare you for the machine learning scientist or machine learning engineer role. We’ll examine both the mathematical and applied aspects of machine learning. You’ll study the underlying algorithms and statistical methods that are at the core of machine learning techniques. We’ll also apply these practices using the most popular tools and platforms — along with your developing judgment and intuition — to address actual business needs and real-world challenges.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Our students are a diverse group of professionals that include experienced programmers, statisticians, applied mathematicians and data scientists. Admission requirements vary depending on your field. Review the requirements that pertain to you below.
If you are a programmer, software engineer or another kind of engineer:
Three years of recent professional programming experience in a high-level language such as C, C++, Java or Python or equivalent ML personal projects such as in Kaggle
Undergraduate mathematics courses covering linear algebra, calculus and probability
Undergraduate courses in statistics
If you are a statistician, applied mathematician or data scientist, or have a Ph.D. in another quantitative field:
Two years of experience as a statistician, data scientist or applied mathematician OR a Ph.D. in a quantitative field (ABDs — All But Dissertation people — welcome)
Familiarity with Python
If you don't meet the requirements above, you might consider enrolling in the Certificate in Data Science first.
Time Commitment
Including time in class, you should expect to spend about 9 to 11 hours each week on coursework.
English Proficiency
If English is not your native language, you should have at least intermediate English skills to enroll. To see if you qualify, make sure you are at the B2 level on the CEFR self-assessment grid . To learn more, see English Language Proficiency Requirements – Noncredit Programs .
