Intelligent filmmaking entails both artistry and practical skills. The best filmmakers blend the art of storytelling with the tools and techniques of superior digital production.

In this course, you’ll gain both a theoretical and applied overview of the production process. We’ll explore the elements of visual storytelling, giving you an understanding of what’s needed in both documentary and dramatic narrative filmmaking. You’ll develop directing skills and become familiar with basic video editing, including how to pre-plan, shoot with the edit in mind, and then execute your vision in the edit room.

What You’ll Learn

  • The vocabulary, tools and workflow of the film production process

  • Key directing skills, including camera placement, interviewing documentary subjects, working with actors and staging a scene

  • Important video editing techniques

  • Filmmaking leadership abilities, including collaboration, crew management and working with your artistic team

Get Hands-On Experience

You’ll shoot and edit several short films.
