About this Course
In this course, you’ll use cartography to develop foundational skills in spatial concepts and thinking that will prepare you for advanced study in geographic information systems (GIS) and geographic information management. You’ll delve into historical cartographic principles and key concepts that are the foundation of digital cartography and GIS. Related technologies like Global Positioning Systems (GPS), aerial surveying, photogrammetry and remote sensing depend on these foundations, as well as spatial procedures like land surveying, census surveying and others. You’ll produce digital maps by identifying and manipulating spatial data and work with related technologies for particular tasks.
What You'll Learn
- Principles of visual communication through cartographic best practices
- How to author effective maps based on appropriate cartographic techniques
- Key spatial concepts, such as scale, projections and coordinate systems
- How to use ArcGIS Pro to work with layouts, map frames and spatial data to create static and web-based maps
- Effective cartographic representations
